Paul Hannaby is a self taught wood turner based in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and is a member of the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB). He produces a wide range of items from the functional to the purely decorative. His main focus is on individual pieces. Many different species of wood are used include Apple, Ash, Beech, Cherry, Elm, Holly, Oak, Sycamore, Yew, Willow, Walnut and Wellingtonia. Much of the material used is sourced as either complete trees or wind blown or trimmed branches which would be unusable for other purposes due to their size or location. Use of such timber limits the impact on the environment by avoiding waste. The finishes used are intended to protect and enhance the wood without removing the ability to touch and feel what is always a very tactile and natural material. Wherever practical, environmentally friendly natural finishes are used Available for talks, demonstration and tuition. Commissions undertaken. Contact Paul for further details and availability. |
