Turning is the process of shaping an object mounted in a lathe into a rounded form by applying tools
against the workpiece as it spins.
Ornamental or complex turning works on the plain turned shape to apply some form of ornamentation by
means or an externally powered cutting device.
The workpiece may be held stationary by an indexing device whil an external cutting tool is brought
in to make a cut, when indexed and the cuts repeated. This can create a basketwork, fluting and spiral
effect of pattern, amongst many others.
